Coppola abandoned the project entirely in 2007 and only began developing it in 2019
Tale
The city of Nova Roma is pitted against Cesar Catilina, a brilliant artist who advocates a utopian future, and the greedy mayor Franklyn Cicero. Between them is Julia Cicero, whose loyalties are divided between her father and her lover. Francis Ford Coppola wrote the screenplay in the early 1980s, but the film was shelved, in part due to his financial debts. Pre-production finally began in 2001, after 30 hours of second take filming and a table read with Paul Newman, Uma Thurman, Robert De Niro, James Gandolfini, Nicolas Cage, Leonardo DiCaprio, Russell Crowe, Edie Falco and Kevin Spacey, but the project was abandoned after the September 11 attacks because a scene in the script (page 166) “predicted” the attacks.
There are many moments throughout the film where hand movements jump between cuts

Adam Driver and Nathalie Emmanuel had no chemistry
This film reminded me of The Room and Adam Driver’s performance was more like Tommy Wiseau. Awkward dialogue and a poor script that he couldn’t read. Since the film was shot during the pandemic, I wonder if they met before they were cast or if they were just cast over Zoom. I bet Adam Driver, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Aubrey Plaza will be nominated for a Razzie and maybe even win.
It was pretentious, shallow, and a waste of money
I’ve never seen a group of actors this “talented” who didn’t have the self-awareness to ridicule themselves and make us wonder if they’re actually talented. I walked out before the end because I couldn’t stand the bad dialogue, it was like the actors were talking to a wall and had only learned their lines 5 minutes before. That opening speech from Hamlet was one of the worst I’ve ever seen. The shots looked like a 2003 TV movie edited on Windows 95.
It’s not that bad, it’s good because I couldn’t follow the plot because it was all jumbled up
