Since I watched the original movie only recently, I didn’t come to this movie with huge anticipation

In that sense I might judge it differently than someone who was a fan of the classic, so keep that in mind. Overall, I had a very good time, and I think the movie is a decent continuation of the cult classic. Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, who I’ve been a fan of since watching "Smallville" as a child, bring their unique storytelling style to the world of *Beetlejuice* in a movie that is very different from its predecessor, but in a fresh way that also respects the original.Tim Burton, of course, brings his unique style, and this certainly feels like a Tim Burton movie in every sense of the word. The visual effects and production design are beautifully crafted, with that classic feeling of Burton films from the ’80s and ’90s, but enhanced with today’s technologies and more extensive options.The acting in the movie was excellent from all parties involved. Michael Keaton, in the iconic role, looks and behaves exactly the same, as if 36 years haven’t passed since filming the first movie.

Another standout performance in the film was Willem Dafoe’s, in an excellent and unconventional comedic role

Winona Ryder, who has become a much more experienced actress since the original film, leads the film proudly, and the great Justin Theroux is hilariously funny in his unique way. Jenna Ortega, while delivering a good performance, feels a bit overexposed to me in recent years, with the sense that her presence is inevitable wherever you look. I would love to see her take on a more challenging role that presents a drastically different performance from what she usually does, to justify the hype. Overall, the cast is packed with big names that are always a delight to see on screen. Another strength of the movie is the musical aspect – something the first movie was very famous for.

It’s not the modern, tiresome fan service seen in quite a few franchise films lately, but rather something that honors the original and gives fans who have been waiting for a sequel what they wanted, doing so in a logical, enjoyable way that remains true to the spirit of the story and what cinema should be

From a good choice of songs, especially fun "musical numbers," references to classics from the first movie, and in particular, a slightly different spin on Danny Elfman’s iconic and wonderful theme music that will thrill any fan of the classic film.In general, while I watched the first movie just recently, it’s impossible to ignore the amount of fan service in this movie for fans of the classic film – and I mean that in the most positive way possible.

“Megalopolis” is a movie I wanted to like, mainly because it is an incredibly expensive independent project written, produced, financed and directed by the legendary Francis Ford Coppola, an auteur who has been planning this work for 40 years and loves it. Plus, the experience of sitting in a nearly empty IMAX theater with only a few others added to the atmosphere… Aside from that, Adam Driver’s Oscar-worthy performance and stunning visual effects looked beautiful on the big screen, nothing else in this movie is worthy of praise. The plot follows the genius scientist Caesar, the revolutionary material “Megalopolis” with which he plans to build a utopian city of the future – “Megalopolis”. This is one of the central themes of the film, the obsession with perfection in a world and society far removed from it. Envy, jealousy, greed and lust for power are other themes that form the essence of this work.

Coppola doesn’t shy away from weaving in political commentary and reflections on human existence

When I think of the themes in the film, you’d think it’s a good movie. On the contrary, all of these themes are destroyed by the chaos of the narrative, which I think is due to the director’s pretentious ambitions to present a ‘megalomania’ piece of art. The editing and narration are disjointed – the film jumps from scene to scene without coherence, which becomes boring after just fifteen minutes. By the halfway point I had completely lost interest in the story and was just waiting for it to end. While most of the cast is well-known, it’s hard to connect with any of the characters – most of them are shallow and some are completely unnecessary.

The only character I connected with was Caesar, thanks to Adam Driver’s excellent performance

His ability to convey Caesar’s mania, dialogue, and emotions is probably the reason I stayed engaged in the first place, rather than the depth of the character itself. The dialogue is varied: sometimes brilliant, sometimes dull, which made for a rather uneven experience. The cinematography is excellent and if Coppola had focused primarily on this element, this film could have been exceptional.

Every time he’s on screen, he gives a performance so eccentric that it rivals Jim Carrey from The Mask, only without a lot of computer help. If his role calls for abhorrence, he brings ugliness; obnoxious, carrying offensive; witty, brings in amusing sarcasm. One of my few complaints is that he doesn’t get enough screen time, even though he does get a large part, most of it goes to Gena Davis and Alec Tim Burton’s direction is fantastic. Anyone who has seen this movie will remember it as the dinner dance scene. If you haven’t seen this, you probably grew up under a rock or were born before me.
