Tale
19-year-old Liana lives with her mother and sister in Frejus, southern France. Overwhelmed by the desire for beauty and fame, she auditions for the reality TV show “Wonder Island”. Agata Ridinger’s film does not depict romantic clichés. It is wonderfully authentic and, like life, unsweetened. Impeccable acting and character development that is hard not to get attached to. An excellent script that deliberately avoids – with a maturity rarely found in the first – the path of drama. The director makes them guess and then systematically leads us down another path. The reality of this film is far from the black-and-white simplifications that decades of patriarchal narrative have accustomed us to. The subject here is a woman. Beautiful cinema, incredible debut. 10/10.
